Etruscan Tomb at Cerveteri

Award Winning Etruscan Tomb at Cerveteri

On-site pencil sketch of an Etruscan tomb at Cerveteri, Italy. The Etruscans built cities for their beloved dead, this is an exploration of the probable construction of the tomb. The rock appears to have been hewn and rooms carved for the burials, then large stones were used to build up the entry vault. Earth is retained by monoliths at the perimeter of the structure. I studied the shape of the room in the half-light coming from the entry portal, feeling my way around the back chambers to determine the shape of the rooms.
