A few definitions:

Subject is site improvement under consideration; for a builder after a healthcare expansion project, this would be the actual expansion. This is the focus of Vinci’s construction visualization effort.

Context includes the terrain, improvements on site to remain or be removed, neighboring or adjacent structures, or more distant structures. Those context objects on site are of most interest, and may significantly affect construction of the subject. Neighboring context helps the audience orient themselves. Distant context improves the “convincing” quality of the construction visualization. Context is delivered in a montage by the base image. Immersive models normally require more aggressive context modeling. The flexibility of a context model is much less than that of the subject.

Montage is the process of applying either digital mode output or rendered art to a base image, usually a photograph of the site. Montage occupies one end of the Vinci Spectrum of Services, relying on the base image to convey site context (existing and neighboring structures). Digital modeling can be minimized at the expense of rendering.

Immersion is the production of a rich, comprehensive digital model that conveys all phases of the construction schedule. Immersion includes significant construction logistics items (cranes, offices), and both the subject (the building under construction) and neighboring structures. Terrain is represented in the digital model. Output from the model is not applied to or limited by base imagery; base imagery is not necessary. The average quantity of output of an immersive model is easily four to eight times the montage process.

Vinci™ Focus™ involves a detailed model of the subject, yielding a sequence of images of the subject from any direction. Focus™ completely ignores context and logistics (equipment) and concentrates on the development sequence of the building.

Vinci™ GCS™ (General Construction Sequence) is a simple aerial view of the worksite, showing principal logistics, circulation, and construction schedule. Vinci GCS includes VinciMeter™ and may be produced by montage or immersion. Immersion can efficiently yield multiple GCS, while montage normally yields one GCS.

Vinci™ DWS™ (Digital Worksite™) is a comprehensive worksite model used to produce graphics, but also can be used for limited site analysis. DWS is typically an immersion process.

Vinci ICM™ (Immersive Contextual Model™) is a comprehensive digital model covering a large area that includes terrain and improvements pertaining to a common organization. Most ICMs are created for medical, research, and university campuses where construction requires a systemwide approach.

Vinci™ Vignettes are graphics that briefly cover a significant but minor topic. These can be “before & after” images or a short sequence detailing a construction issue. Vignettes are normally produced by photomontaging output from a relatively immersive model onto a site photograph.

Vinci™ SubVision™ are images that illustrate subsurface conditions. Three types of Vinci™ SubVision™ are available: click to find out more. (Examples forthcoming).
