McRee Town at Dusk

This is the first of the “Drive-By” series, verone-style sketches produced from the memory of having driven past the subject on my evening commute from downtown St. Louis to St. Louis Hills on the southwest side. Like many of the drawings in the series, this vista presented itself on the north side of Interstate 44. The scene is in McRee Town, a depressed part of town cut off from areas all around by highways and industry, soon to be razed and redeveloped. The indigo evening twilight plays against the coppery orange urban light. Some fluorescent orange was used on the sides of the smokestacks. Produced 3 December 2001 = Tayya 6786, six dozen seventh phase (Añikça-Peretivanal Xrga, “Life Phase of the Demolition of the Zodiac”).
