Vinci Digital Worksite™ | Master Plan | Attention to Meaningful Detail.

All this machinery making [construction visualization] / Can still be open-hearted / Not so coldly charted, it’s really just a question / Of your honesty, yeah, your honesty (apologies to the rock band Rush).

There are a lot of buzzwords for concepts, generated by committees of wise men on high. One of them is “LOD”, and there is a decimal number assigned to the concepts. In construction marketing, what is the proper level of detail? Can a council of wise people know it? Who wrote those rules? Software poobahs? Pointy headed geeks (I am one!) Why listen to them when all you want is to win that job?

There indeed is a right level of detail in marketing — the detail that convinces the Owner that you are in touch with the spirit of the master plan and your crews already know where future features will appear when the present site still looks like a battleground. Little things mean a lot, and sometimes the schematics serve just fine as is — everyone who’s seen the master plan is already familiar with them! They act like “words” that people are already familiar with. Don't worry about buzzwords or 100, 200, 300 geek levels of LOD. Do what you think is right. Use detail where you need it, and don't where it doesn't help your case. "Use the Force, let yourself go!"
