Rainy Day Masonry Vignettes

Rainy Day Masonry Vignettes

The two studies of material details at far left were produced on an inclement day from inside the studio. The basement studio daylighted on the south and a view of the back of homes was available. The tilted masonry infill of an archway was intriguing. As we stayed in Italy, it became apparent that Italians use masonry like Americans use wood sheeting. A third sketch is one of the studio subject, a new S. Chiara Study Center on a nearby hilltop. This would later become a paperboard model assembled at the studio that was shipped home at great expense. Some class notes appear at the top right side of the page. The page layout is an important part of the composition of this page, as is the simulated typography of the words dispersed among the images. Drawn 8 February 1992 = Tayya 4698, four dozen sixth phase (Safyr-Apacinal Xrga).
