“Loriternal Yev”

single point perspective urban architecture naive

This one-point perspective is a self-motivated drawing of an imagined scene in the capital city of an interstellar empire in a role-playing game I enjoyed with high school friends. The drawing uses standard pencil lead for much of the shading, calling in penetrating 6B for deep blacks. Visits to downtown Chicago with family now and then inspire the canyonlike street scene. Throughout middle and high school, drawing and science/mathematics comprised the centers of my confidence; I was convinced I could draw anything if I spent the time to tackle the subject. However the population of the sidewalks and streets presented complexity I didn’t feel confident in tackling, so I focused on architecture. The title of the drawing means “Lorilei City”, the lrixe name of the interstellar empire was “Lorilei” (sic), likely named after a middle school crush who also inspired the name of the constructed language lrixe. Produced 14 May 1984 = Tayya 3187, 9th grade, three dozen first phase (Ralysa Ximerlorielal Xrga).
