“Fixin’ to Fish”

Fixin' to Fish

My daughter Claire learned to fish on this day, taught by her aunt Jill. Both these and Claire’s grandmother Judy are present on the boat, docked on a warped wooden deck on a slip that opens north into the waters between the USA and Canada. This was the most complicated on site subject, with a bobbing boat, changing lighting conditions, and motion in the waters. The drawing started with the boat and dock, then the waters of the slip. Once these were accomplished, I had enough confidence to complete the vegetation all around, then the background and sky. The colors of the ladies’ clothes fell outside the gamut of my limited palette (geared to greens, browns, and blues of nature). This drawing took 90 minutes and over a dozen insect bites, and stands as one of my finest on site drawings. Produced 4 August 2010 = Tayya 8584, eight dozen fifth phase (Salcyra-Rynhaxharal Xrga, “Life Phase of Sacred Quietude”). Continued gratitude to Mr. Goodheart in sharing his peaceful northern home with us; it was one of the best trips of our lives.
